On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump released a scathing denunciation of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), launching a civil war in the Republican Party. In a speech after the Senate voted to acquit Trump on charges of impeachment related to the Capitol riot on January 6, McConnell had echoed Democratic talking points, explaining that he only voted to acquit Trump because he thought it unconstitutional to convict a former president who had already left office.
